Part 4: Bishop in April

April 14, 2011
Second rest day. Tried Fly Boy Sit and this problem around the corner. In the guide it's called "Almost" and supposedly V4. However the holds are sparsely chalked up, mostly from Kevin and Charlie doing it. Charlie claims a FA and called it Kevin's Project since he red taped it as Kevin worked the moves. If you have good skin and are not tired, it goes. Otherwise, not. Charlie said it was, "Planet Granite V9, Vertex V7."

Climber: Shannon
Spotter: Charlie(L) Ryan (R)
There ended up being a gang of people and pads trying Fly Boy. Emilia cam really close (eventually sending the next day). Shannon showed up and threw down. It was unbelievable how hard she goes for something. There is no, medium tossing. She went big and got bucked. First fall was a complete superman off the jug. Charlie spotted her well and the force from the spot sent him reeling backwards and down to the pad. Kevin said her face bounced twice on the pad. She sat up and laughed it off. Like it was nothing!

The next try was probably the most horrifying fall we all have ever witnessed.

Shannon climbed up to the toss at the top, set her feet, and jumped. Catching the good hold and holding the out-swing, her right hand ripped off on the in-swing forcing her body to spin left and out. Not the way Charlie thought has he backed up ready to catch her supermaning out.

That didn't happen.

She spun off and ass rocketed about 12ft  down on to a nice Organic pad covering the rock at the base. The horror on her face realizing she might have just broken her tailbone set in instantly. She bounced twice off the pad from the force of the fall. It was the most horrific thing to witness. And she was able to get up, thankful she didn't break any bones but sustained some bruising of her coccyx she suspected. That was enough for us and we packed up. Emilia and Kevin headed down to the Grandpa Peabody before going to what we thought was Happy Hour (everyone knows that when you say Happy Hour you mean Whickey Creek BEFORE 6pm) before Charlie, his friend Ryan, and I caught up with them.
Checkboard gets really good light at the end of a day in April
